Everything You Need to Know About POWERBALL© Draws in West Virginia

POWERBALL® draws in West Virginia take place three times a week, meaning you’ve got multiple opportunities to try your chances at one of the most popular games of chance if you wish to participate. But before you purchase your ticket for the POWERBALL jackpot, here’s a straightforward guide to the draw schedules, ticket options, and claiming prizes in West Virginia.

The POWERBALL® draw schedule

As mentioned, POWERBALL® holds drawings three times weekly:

  • Monday nights at 10:59 PM ET
  • Wednesday nights at 10:59 PM ET
  • Saturday nights at 10:59 PM ET

Ticket sales stop at 9:59 PM ET on draw days, so any tickets you purchase after this cutoff time will be for the next scheduled drawing.

Getting Your Tickets And Taking Part

There are two ways you could choose to purchase your POWERBALL® tickets in West Virginia:

1.  At retail locations or Lottery vending machines

You’ll be able to purchase POWERBALL® tickets at convenience stores, supermarkets, and gas stations throughout West Virginia.

Each play costs $2, and you should always sign the back of your ticket right away after purchase.

To play:

  1. Pick five numbers from one through 69. These are the white balls
  2. Select one number from one through 26 for the red POWERBALL®
  3. If you’d rather have random numbers, ask for a Quick Pick

2.  Online options

The West Virginia Lottery also offers online ticket purchases through the regulated website or app:

  1. Set up an account on the West Virginia Lottery website
  2. Verify your identity. You’ll need to prove you’re over 18 and located in the state.
  3. Add funds into your account
  4. Select your numbers or choose Quick Pick
  5. Consider the POWER PLAY® option for an extra $1. This means you can multiply non-jackpot prizes
  6. Complete your purchase

After the drawing, you can log in to check your results.

The POWER PLAY® option

For an additional $1 per play, the POWER PLAY® option has the potential to multiply non-jackpot prizes. The multiplier (2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, or sometimes 10x) is randomly selected during each drawing.

If you match all five white balls but miss the POWERBALL®, the POWER PLAY® option automatically increases your prize to $2 million, regardless of which multiplier is drawn.

Claiming Your Prizes

Prizes up to $600 typically go straight to your online account, but you may need to visit the West Virginia Lottery headquarters in Charleston if you win any larger amounts. Ultimately, how you claim depends on how much you’ve won:

For prizes up to $600:

  • Visit any West Virginia Lottery retailer
  • Check your online account if you played that way

For prizes over $600:

  • Visit a West Virginia Lottery office
  • Bring ID and complete a claim form
  • Have your signed ticket ready

Playing Responsibly

The West Virginia Lottery requires all players to be at least 18 years old. If you play online, you’ll have access to tools such as deposit limits and time reminders to help you manage your gameplay.
